RECYCLE

LEARNING HOW TO PROPERLY RECYCLE OLD ELECTRONICS CAN HELP LIMIT THE NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF E-WASTE

STEP 1: PICK YOUR ITEMS

Electronic waste encompasses a wide range of items. Devices you may find in your dormitory that should not be disposed of in a landfill include old cell phones, gaming consoles, televisions,  and computers. As a general rule of thumb, the item is e-waste if it can be plugged into an electrical outlet.

 STEP 2: RECYCLE OR DONATE?

If the item is still functional, like an old cell phone, you should bring it to a donation center like TROSA. You can also donate it at the end of the school year through Duke's Charity and Move Out program. Re-using electronics is the single most effective way to reduce waste overall. If the item is no longer functional, you can find how to recycle it below.

STEP 3: FIND A RECYCLING CENTER

Check out our recycling map to find a recycling center that's right for you. Each location will have a link to the website and a brief description on its restrictions. Click the icon to the left to view the map page.

STEP 4: DROP OFF YOUR ITEMS

Every location is free to drop off, and most have drop-boxes so you don't even need to walk inside!
